  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract)
  • 1 envelope (about 2.5 teaspoons) of unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons of cold water

Instructions

Creating the perfect creamy vanilla panna cotta is a straightforward process. Follow these steps to achieve panna cotta bliss:

  1. Prepare the Gelatin:
    • Sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water in a small bowl. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes to bloom and become soft.
  2. Heat the Cream and Milk:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar.
    • If using a vanilla bean, split it lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add both seeds and bean to the saucepan. If using vanilla extract, add it after removing the saucepan from the heat.
    • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Incorporate the Gelatin:
    • Remove the saucepan from the heat. Discard the vanilla bean pod if using.
    • Stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour and Chill:
    • Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher or large measuring cup to remove any remaining solids.
    • Carefully pour the panna cotta mixture into individual serving glasses or molds.
    • Allow to cool slightly, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  5. Unmold and Serve:
    • If using molds, gently run a thin knife around the edge and invert onto a plate to unmold.
    • Serve directly in the glass if preferred.
